Biography of Ezra Vogel:
Ezra F. Vogel is the Henry Ford II Professor of the Social Sciences Emeritus at Harvard University. He is the author of the best-selling Deng Xiaoping and the Transformation of China (2011), One Step Ahead in China: Guangdong Under Reform (1989), Japan as Number One: Lessons for America (1979), and Canton Under Communism (1969), as well as other books and countless articles published in the field of East Asian Studies. Vogel has served as the Director of Harvard’s East Asian Research Center, Director of the Fairbank Center, first Director of the Harvard Asia Center, National Intelligence Officer for East Asia at the National Intelligence Council, and Director of the American Assembly on China in 1996 and the Joint Chinese-American Assembly in 1998. In addition to his lifetime of research and teaching at Harvard, Vogel has lectured frequently in Asia, in both Chinese and Japanese.
